Getting started in the modeling industry can prove to be quite grueling. There is a lot of cut throat competition and endless auditions that you need to attend. All this does not guarantee that you’ll even get a lucky break. The models with thick skin are the ones that end up making it in the industry; also the smart ones. This is because in some occasions, you may find that you will have to sit through an interview before you are hired as a model. Remember, modeling is also a job so your employer has the right to interview you. You need to be prepared for such interviews. Here are some common questions that you may be asked at modeling interviews.
1. Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?
This question is basically supposed to determine what your career objective is. Some models want to dabble in the industry for a few years while they get their degrees from graduate school while other models want to make it a full time career. You have to be honest with your answer because your contract will depend on it. For example, do not say that you intend to be a full time supermodel in five years when you just want to model for a couple of months. Your contract, which is a legal document, will interfere with any other plans you may have had.
2. Why did you choose modeling?
Your interviewer is basically asking you why you want to be a model. There is no right or wrong answer this. Everyone has their own reasons, mostly financial. What you need to do is analyze your reasons way before you go for your interview. This will give you adequate time to formulate an answer that will be both genuine and make you come off as intelligent. Ensure that you expound on your answer but do not talk about it for hours on end. A brief answer that is informative and witty will probably impress your interviewer.
3. What is required in modeling?
This will be questioning how much or how little you know of the industry. Even if you were a novice at modeling, you would be better off having an informed answer than a naive one. This will portray that you are ready for whatever challenges you are to face in modeling. Make sure you ask other models what the industry is like and what is usually expected of models. This could range from what is expected of your dress code to the proper etiquette at go sees. The more you know, the easier it will be for you to answer this question.
4. How will you deal with veteran models?
The modeling world can be very malicious. Newcomers are usually looked down upon and are detested because it seems like they are trying to penetrate an exclusive club. The general rule of thumb is that you will treat all models with respect whether they like you or not. You should not come off as overly aggressive.
